The 2021 National Chess Championship (NCC) is an elite national championship event, featuring 20 of the strongest chess players in Nigeria. Over the course of nine rounds, these competitors will battle for the coveted title of 2021 Nigeria Chess Champion. The NCC is organized by the Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF). The 2021 championship will be an historic event as it is the first time the chess federation will be partnering with any chess club to organize the national championship. The hosting rights for the 2021 championship was granted to the Orchid-Lekki Chess Club (OLCC).
The objective of the NCC is primarily to determine the Nigerian National Chess Champion. However, the inclusion of the other sections (Opens & Juniors) is to expand participation so that other players can have the opportunity to improve their playing strengths and ratings.
The total prize fund for the National Chess Championship is N10,000,000.00.
Below are the details for the invitational tournament.
Date: 9th -14th November 2021
Venue: Orchid-Lekki Chess Club, Orchid hotels, Plot 3, Dream Africana Way, near Chevron Toll Gate, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.
Eligibility: Nine of the strongest players in Nigeria and one wild card player. This applies to both the male and female categories.
