The 2023 Nigeria National Chess Championship (NCC) is the biggest chess event in Nigeria. This elite national championship is the determinant of the Nigeria Chess Champion and the Nigeria Women Chess Champion. The NCC is organized by Nigeria’s leading chess club, Orchid-Lekki Chess Club (OLCC), on behalf of the Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF) which granted the chess club hosting rights till 2025. The 2023 National Chess Championship will be the 3rd edition of an epic event as it is the continuation of the Nigeria Chess Federation partnership with Orchid-Lekki Chess Club.
The championship has two main sections: The Invitational Section and the Opens Section. The Invitational Section is a closed section that will feature some of the top-rated Nigerian chess players who will battle for the coveted national titles. The Opens Section is where players of different categories, playing strengths and ages can compete. It includes masters, open, blitz and junior categories.
The total prize money for NCC 2023 is about ₦15,000,000.00
The organizers intend that the event meets international standards in its planning and execution and hope that the event will attract publicity for chess and for the sponsors; and that the participants have an overall pleasant experience.
